With the holidays approaching, we opted for a weekend at the (Von) Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. It was perfect weather for our tastes and plans. Crisp, cold air (but not too cold) and a little snow on the ground – just the right amount to keep the cross-country skiers at home, and for us to hike hike hike.
The hills were alive with the sound of… silence. We met stone chapels, birch trees and pine cones who made no sound. Very serene and re-energizing. We hiked up, and over, and around, ending at an outdoor firepit s’mores and cocoa station provided by the lodge’s Kaffeehaus. That’s where we met this happy little snowman fellow. Don’t worry, he wasn’t near the firepit!
My alter-ego Sauvignonline was in his glory as well. After long days of hiking, our evenings features cold draughts at the von Trapp Brewery, a tasting event in the Wine Cellar and some fireside martinis made with Vermont vodkas.
There was also a wedding at the lodge. And not just any wedding, but one inspired by White Christmas. The bride and groom looked quite festive. We had heard rumors that this theme-inspired wedding was also going to have reindeer and fireworks. I was able to stroll by the reindeer who awaited the wedding party outside the ballroom where they dined (before they arrived). So cool! And everyone at the lodge enjoyed the fireworks as they exploded above the lodge that evening.
