But it wasn’t.
The artisans were in dark booths. The musicians were in the sun except for the low tent which cast a shadow right over their faces. And it was a little chilly, so everyone on the lawn was lying under blankets. The very best picture I could take was a string of plastic bottles decorated like fish.
Then we turned the corner so to speak and headed through another neighborhood in Boston’s North End. It was quiet there too… until we happened upon a strange and wonderful celebration. I’m not sure why this statue of the Virgin Mary was adorned with strands of dollar bills (and some tens!), but the folks attending seemed very excited about it. Quite a 180. We were even jamming to the police department marching band as the money statue was carried through the neighborhood!
