The photos above are all taken close to the harbor, where most of what I saw there were spools of mooring rope, rusty grates, rotting pier pylons. The majestic Navy vessels were tempered by towering gray on gray. The one pop of color was a red light bulb, but even this beacon was set inside a black cage and set against a dark siding.
Coincidentally, I found this red light’s distant cousin in the residential neighborhood a few blocks of the water. These scenes there were still awash in clouds, but yet a bit more optimistic. Sure, there were plenty of cobblestones, rusty bolts, stained sewer drains and oxidized downspouts, but the mayor of the neighborhood must be this happy Buddha who seems to be saying three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.
