Then I had a conference call that was scheduled to start just as I got into an Uber at LAX. The stars aligned on that one to keep me productive as my driver battled some textbook L.A. traffic. I took a few more calls once I checked into my hotel. It was about 3pm local time when I noticed my calendar and my colleagues had both gone a bit quiet. Ah, that’s because it was 6pm back east. A few more hours at the hotel and I might end up asleep too early to adjust. So, the scene was set for an outing. I did some Google searching and decided Malibu Pier was the right mix of being reasonably close by, somewhere I hadn’t been, great potential for photos, and of course, somewhere I could grab some dinner. What a perfect quick visit. In just a few hours there, I captured some awesome beach and surfing photos (which I had only attempted once before), had a great meal, saw a sunset, and was back to the hotel in time for a responsibly early bedtime.
It was quite inspiring to see such a diverse set of people enjoying the Malibu waves (surfing and fishing). Old, young, men, women, people of all shapes and sizes.
The first set of photos I captured were candid photos, both on Malibu Pier and on the beach. It was a real treat to sit on the beach a bit during a business trip. It was also nice not being the only photographer there. It made me feel more comfortable to be snapping pictures of people slicing through the waves. I hope you click through to the end of this set, as I really love the sunset photo. As I noted above, there were surfers of all flavors. Enjoy!
